WhatsApp two step verification: How to do it on Android, iPhone

Your WhatsApp account holds a lot of chats and other data; something you obviously don’t want to land in the wrong hands. The obvious choice is to keep it all protected but sometimes, putting a fingerprint or facial verification to the app is not enough. Unlike other 2FA systems, WhatsApp does not rely on phone numbers to send the code. Instead, it makes you create a custom code that you need to provide in order to log in.

Note that this two-step verification system works on both Android and iPhone devices.

• Open WhatsApp and tap on Settings under the three-dot menu on Android. On iPhone, you need to tap on the Settings tab.
• Tap on Account.
• Under this section, you will find two-step verification as one of the options listed. Tap on it.
• WhatsApp will inform you about how the system works and will eventually give an option to “Enable” it. Tap on Enable.
• You will be asked to provide a six-digit code. Note that you need to remember your six-digit code.
• Next, you will be provided with an option to enter your email ID. This is just for account recovery in case you forget the six-digit code.
• Once you enter that, you are now done.
• If you are logging your WhatsApp account on a new Android phone or an iPhone, you will need to enter this six-digit code in order to continue settings up your account.
• WhatsApp warns of not sharing this six-digit code with anyone over a call, message, or WhatsApp text.
